Communication student wins first place prize at 2018 GSU Research Conference

Congratulations to Alexis Gaffney—student of Communication faculty Dr. Rasha Ramzy—who earned a first place prize among all oral presentations in the humanities discipline at the GSU Undergraduate Research Conference (GSURC) yesterday! GSURC is an interdisciplinary undergraduate research conference which highlights and recognizes the research taking place across Georgia State’s campus. Each year Georgia State undergraduate students are invited to submit their scholarly and creative projects as posters, oral presentations and artistic or creative presentations.

Professor Carrie Freeman of Communication—a facilitator of prizes for the best sustainability-focused entries at GSURC—encourages more student involvement. She had this to say:

We should encourage our students to participate (the easy application process happens the beginning of each spring term, and the 1 day conference is held in mid April each year). I attend each year to facilitate the prizes for the best sustainability-focused entries, so if you have any students doing eco-related class projects, then definitely encourage them to submit them to next year’s conference.

For more information about GSURC in including past winners, conference schedule, advisory board, etc, feel free to visit their website here. We’re always proud of our students’ accomplishments and we enjoy propagating, supporting, and promoting their success. Once again, Congrats Alexis! We hope that more communication students can join you in sharing this same achievement in years to come.
