Biography
Carolyn S. Carlson
(Ph.D., Georgia State University, 2005) is a Lecturer, with
a teaching emphasis in the journalism newswriting area.
The appointment reflects Carlson’s long and distinguished
service as a reporter for The Associated Press. In that
capacity, and given a strong interest in press law issues,
Carlson has also been long associated with the Society of
Professional Journalists and the Georgia First Amendment
Foundation. She also has experience as a press secretary
and public relations professional. A former
national president of the Society of Professional Journalists,
she is currently active in advocating on behalf of the student
media, specializing in issues involving access to campus
crime information. She has taught a range of courses at
Georgia State (both in communication and political science,
the area of her doctoral research). The dissertation examined
the effect of survey
question wording combinations on polling outcomes, especially
connected to the hotly debated question of how survey manipulation
can effect apparent public opinion measures on abortion.
