"Distance Education is instructional delivery that does not constrain the student to be physically present in the same location as the instructor. Historically, Distance Education meant correspondence study. Today, audio, video, and computer technologies are more common delivery modes." (from "What is Distance Education" by Virginia Steiner, DLRN 1995.)

Learning takes place in a variety of situations, not all of which are in a face-to-face setting with instructor and learner in the same physical location. Distance Education represents a way for connecting and communicating with geographically dispersed individuals and groups. There are four characters of distance learning:
           A Need for Access
A Need for Flexibility and Choice
Ongoing & Flexible Access to Learning
           The Possibilities of Distance Education

Working with Georgia State University, the Center for International Media Education (CIME) has established several programs of distance learning with many universities, or other higher education institutions, such as Yarmouk University, American University in Cairo etc, around the world. CIME will continue its effort to provide the platform of inter-culture exchange and higher education in journalism via distance learning.
