YARMOUK UNIVERSITY PROJECT

.....One of the fruitful and distinguished projects run by the CIME is the Yarmouk project. This five-year project opens up academic windows and establishes systematic channels of communication between Yarmouk university/Jordan and Georgia State university/USA. This project allows professors from both universities to exchange visits and to get first hand information about the academic culture, teaching setting, and curriculum developments.

.....The project’s theme has been developed around these sound four objectives: teaching, research, fund raising and community services. During the past four years, thirteen visits have been made by the Yarmouk side to GSU. The feedback of these visits is very encouraging and even pushing for further cooperation. The Jordanian professors have taken the advantage of being here to meet with their colleagues from GSU and to discuss certain issues relevant to the field of communication. Attending classes is another opportunity for them to meet face to face with American students and to engage in a constructive discussion.
Professors from GSU have also visited Jordan and met with their colleagues at YU. They also attended classes and opened up a real discussion with the students their regarding different issues ranging from the possibilities to come to US to the American foreign policy towards the Arab world.

.....Due to the enduring efforts of Dr. Teel, along with Dr. Khasawneih’s understanding of the need for linking both universities alive, YU has established the “Distance Learning Center” with the help of the people at GSU. This center linked both universities alive in many different occasions. This center is supposed to engage students and professors in both universities in actual lectures.

.....Building on these developments, this project is trying to get students from both universities involved through “students-exchange” program or “internship. Dr. Khaswneih has already agreed to send five YU’s students to come to GSU for one semester or so.

.....This project is a chance to further better understanding of the two different cultures by allowing dialogue. This cultural understanding will bring people of both countries closer based on mutual respect and mutual interest as well.
