Biography

Dr. Philip Lewis is Professor in the Department of Communication at GSU, as well as a film director and writer. He is the Director of the Georgia Media Arts Consortium which produces media for non-profit organizations.  He has produced and directed dozens of films and television programs on four continents and is an award winning documentary film director (winning an ACE in 1990, and the Local Legacy Award by the Library of Congress in 1999). Over his 34-year career in the industry, he has worked for CBS, NBC, MTV, Sony Pictures, TNT Productions and other major media companies throughout Europe, America and Australia.

Publications

Dr. Lewis’ current documentary is an exposé on women’s roles in 21st century Africa. Women Are the Change was released worldwide in the summer of 2014. He also recently released Painting My Miracle: The Conservation of New Mexico State University’s 19th Century Mexican Retablo Collection in the spring of 2015.
