Octavia Nasr is the Managing Director of GSUTV and Professor of Practice within the Department of Communication. A prominent figure in multi-platform journalism and media consulting, Octavia Nasr brings a wealth of experience and a global perspective to her roles.
With a rich background encompassing multi-platform journalism, writing, copy editing, live interviews, and social media management, Octavia Nasr's expertise resonates across the media landscape. Fluent in English, Arabic, and French, her international fluency uniquely positions her to contribute to the university's communication programs.
Nasr's career journey has spanned various prestigious institutions, and in 2010, she founded Bridges Media Consulting (BMC), an international boutique consulting firm. Serving as its Principal Consultant, she extended her talents to provide media organizations worldwide with newsroom management, talent scouting and coaching, and team building. Among her prominent clients are Virginia-based Al-Hurra TV, and the Sharjah Media Center in the United Arab Emirates.
During her two-decade tenure at CNN from 1990 to 2010, Nasr significantly contributed to the network's coverage of high-profile global stories. She played an integral role in the International Newsgathering Desk, conducting interviews, and producing reports and documentaries. Her transformative efforts were recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award for evolving CNN World Report into a live program featuring professional coverage of world events and breaking news.
Outside of her professional accomplishments, Octavia Nasr is also an accomplished teacher of mindfulness practices, including meditation, Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and Vedic Chanting.
Octavia holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Communication from Georgia State University, where her thesis explored the rhetoric of yoga, offering prescriptive recommendations to uphold yoga's traditional identity and ethical code. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Communication Arts from the Lebanese American University (LAU).
Her illustrious career has been dotted with accolades, including the Edward R. Murrow Award for Lebanon's Continued War Coverage and the Overseas Press Club Award for CNN's post-9/11 coverage. As a consistent presence on the list of the Arab World's Top Influential Women, Octavia Nasr continues to inspire and lead through her work, injecting her unique perspective and expertise into the realms of journalism and beyond.
