- Biography
Shay Yao’s research broadly centers on media psychology and media effects, with particular emphasis on the areas of gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity, and health and risk. Her primary research program examines how women survive and thrive in men-dominant fields. Dr. Yao also studies how technology (e.g., virtual reality) may promote health. Her scholarly work has been published in outlets such as Sex Roles, Computers in Human Behavior, and Psychology of Popular Media. Regarding methodology, Dr. Yao specializes in quantitative research methods and advanced statistical analysis. Before joining Georgia State University, Dr. Yao was a statistical consultant where she serves as a statistician for faculty members’ grant-funded projects and Ph.D. students’ dissertations.
