Tawanna Tookes manages all administrative work relating to the Department of Communication graduate programs: Oversee graduate admissions and graduation processes; Student advisement; Manage graduate assistantship program and human resource processes for graduate assistants; Assists department’s Chair.
In 2016, Tookes was awarded the department’s Mark Alleyne Award for Staff Leadership and Excellence; 2011, she was awarded the College of Arts & Sciences Senior Staff Leadership Award; and in 2005, she won the university’s Sparks Award, its most prestigious prize for staff accomplishment. She is a graduate of the GSU inaugural Leadership Academy for Women. Tookes has been active on several GSU elected governance committees including the university’s Staff Council and was recognized as one of the founding members. She has served on the College’s Executive, Staff Development and the Mentoring and Morale Committees.
Tookes serves as the department’s coordinator for the annual Project Healthy Grandparents Campaign and in the community, she volunteers with the Children Restoration Network and other local outreach programs in Clayton County.
